Panelist, “The ‘I’ Word: Intersectionality and the Jewish Community”

The “I” Word: Intersectionality and the Jewish Community panel, June 3, 2019

Originally meant as an inclusive tool to protect marginalized communities, the term “intersectionality” has become a hot button topic in Jewish communal spaces. From the Women’s March to college campuses, debates around anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism continue to flare in intersectional forums. As diverse communities join together to fight for a range of social justice causes, is there room for the Jewish community? This session, moderated by Melanie Maron Pell, Managing Director, AJC Regional Offices featured Rabbi Angela Buchdahl of Central Synagogue in New York City; Tema Smith, of the Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto; and Rabbi Gil Steinlauf of the Hineni Fellowship for LGBTQ Jewish Leadership.  This session was introduced by Richard Sideman, AJC Honorary President.
